In this lesson, we are going to learn how to construct an angle similar to a given angle.
So get your drawing instruments and materials and draw with me.
To construct an angle similar to a given angle, you need to follow these steps.
STEP 1. Draw the given angle BAC.
On the drawing paper, draw a line AB and label it accordingly. Use your ruler or set square to draw a line AC at a convenient angle to AB. This is the required angle BAC.
STEP 2. With centre A and any radius draw an arc to cut AC at D and AB at E.
On your drawing paper, place the point of your compass at point A and with any radius, draw an arc to cut line AC at D and line AB at E.
STEP 3. Draw line FG and label the ends accordingly.
Begin the construction of the similar angle by drawing a line FG and label the ends accordingly.
STEP 4. With centre F and radius AD draw an arc to cut FG at H.
Place the point of your compass at point F and draw an arc with radius AD to cut FG at H.
STEP 5. With centre H and radius ED draw an arc to cut the previous one at I.
On your drawing paper, place the point of your compass at point H and use radius ED to draw an arc to cut the previous arc at I.
STEP 6. Draw a straight line from F through the point of intersection of the arcs. This line terminates at J.
Lastly, use your ruler or set square to draw a straight line from point F through the point of intersection of the arcs. This line should terminate at J.
Angle GFJ is the required similar angle.
With all you have learned in this lesson, you should not have any difficulty with how to construct an angle similar to a given angle.
Keep practicing, keep learning and keep having fun with Technical Drawing.
