From family feuds to Twitter tirades, many speak passionately about the need for change, and draw inspiration from individuals who risked life and limb for progress. Yet few act on their beliefs, other than the occassional vote, and many continue to participate in systems that they publicly condemn and deem unjust. Are we cowards, hypocrites or worse? Should we accept that we don't have the answers and leave it to those elected to find solutions to intractable problems? Do we have to recognise that individuals don't have the capacity to change the course of history and find content in living according our own values in our own lives? Or is it the duty of all citizens to act on our beliefs and do all we can to change society in ways we think necessary?

Aaron Bastani is co-founder of Novara Media, one of the most influential independent, radical left-wing media organizations in the UK. He is also author of Fully Automated Luxury Communism which presents his vision of 21st century communism.

Vince Cable is a former acting leader of the Liberal Democrats and was an MP for over twenty years. He is the author of The Storm and a noted bee-keeper and ballroom dancer.

Emma Slade became the first Western woman to be ordained a Buddhist nun in 2014. After a prestigious education and a high-flying career as a financial analyst at HSBC, a traumatic experience of being held hostage and robbed led Emma to relinquish her corporate life and convert to Buddhism. She is an author and founding CEO of the charity Opening Your Heart to Bhutan.

John Zerzan is an American anarcho-primitivist author and ecophilosopher, whose work focuses on the alienating effects of civilization and the urgent need to return to a free society based on a hunter-gatherer lifestyle.
