Named after the medieval church located at the northern end of the bridge, the Santa Trinita Bridge in Florence, Italy, is the oldest elliptic arch bridge in the world. It was designed by Bartolomeo Ammannati in 1567 to replace an earlier medieval bridge that was destroyed by flood. In 1608, four allegorical statues of the “Four Seasons” were added to the ends of the bridge!
