Meet Sammy Robinson, a self-taught Haisla carver and 2013 First Nations Art Award recipient. Based in Kitamaat Village, Sammy began carving at age 11 and has since developed a distinctive, finely detailed style rooted in Haisla history and tradition.
Working in wood, silver, and gold, Sammy shares his stories and culture around the world—but his artwork is available only from his carving shop at home, keeping his practice grounded in community and place.
