Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta Inaugurates “Kargil Digital Classroom” — A Milestone Initiative to Transform Education in Ladakh
In Ladakh, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Shri Kavinder Gupta, today inaugurated the Kargil Digital Classroom at Kargil — a unique initiative of the LAHDC Kargil and the District Administration Kargil, aimed at enhancing digital learning and aligning education in government schools with the CBSE pattern.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chairman/CEC LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffar Akhoon, Member of Parliament Ladakh, Haji Hanifa Jan, SP Kargil Nitin Yadav, ADC Imteeaz Kacho, and CEO Sonam Wangchuk.
Briefing about the initiative, Deputy Commissioner Kargil explained that the Kargil Digital Classroom is a YouTube-based learning platform where expert teachers, officers, and even the DC himself will conduct classes to help students keep pace with the national curriculum. A sample class was presented during the event.
The DC informed that over 25 teachers have volunteered for the programme, with more educators and even college professors expressing interest. The classes will be uploaded in playlists, with recordings taking place at the DIET Studio and the Information Department Studio.
MP Ladakh Haji Hanifa Jan appreciated the concept and congratulated the DC and the education department for introducing such an innovative and beneficial initiative for students in remote areas.
CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffar Akhoon, while addressing the gathering, said that Kargil possesses some of the best educators, who are true assets to the society. He termed the Digital Classroom as a remarkable step toward improving the quality of education, emphasizing the need for collective effort to sustain and strengthen such initiatives. He further highlighted that Kargil has achieved around 90 percent literacy, reflecting the region’s commitment to education.
In his address, Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta congratulated the District Administration and LAHDC Kargil for what he described as a development far more meaningful than any physical infrastructure project — one that directly invests in the future of the youth. He said this model, initiated from Kargil, will set an example for the entire Ladakh region and may inspire similar projects across the country.
The LG also emphasized that improving educational outcomes from 30 to 70 percent and beyond should be the next goal. He reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing employment challenges through education and skill development, praising the youth of Ladakh for their innovation and community spirit.
On the occasion, State Awardee teacher Mehboob Ali also shared his views and lauded the initiative, suggesting ways to further enhance its effectiveness.
