The Caro-Kann can be extremely sharp or very slow, positional, and equal. If white doesn't push hard for an opening advantage, there's a chance that the minor pieces will get traded off and that you'll end up with a very nice pawn structure in a veeeery equal endgame. It's not a symmetrical structure though, and there are potential pawn breaks and passed pawns for both sides, so it's by no means a dead position like what you get from an Exchange Slav, but it's still very hard to make progress.
