Hawaiian - Philippines Sugar Company
Walk through the mill to the locoshed.
In March of this year the 'Hawaiian-Philippines Sugar Company' in Silay City (Negros Occidental, Philippines) hosted me to a visit of their amazing sugar mill.
Not only is this one of the oldest continually operating mills in the Philippines, the management hold a great interest in their history.
This interest has resulted in the mill becoming the only one to have invested in restoring some of their former steam locomotives, of which six still survive on the site, with two operational, a third reportedly nearly restored, and an old Krauss looking to be the next in line for attention.
Two other stored Baldwins appear in this video, while the other four appear in upcoming one.
On this day the mill fired up Baldwin #2 (actually a renumbered #5 as the original #2 in now in California) for us and was used on the run into the cane fields that is normally the job of one of the four surviving Plymouth diesels.
The whole visit was certainly one of the highlights of my 26 years of going to the Philippines, and was even enjoyed by my non-train interested family.
