India Is The Biggest Opportunity In The World At The Moment & For The Next 10-30 Years: Hilton CEO

When Christopher J. Nassetta first stepped into a hotel job at 16, he was ankle-deep in plumbing.

“My career in hospitality started in the toilet,” the now-CEO of Hilton Worldwide tells CNBC-TV18 with a grin.

“My parents told me they wouldn’t give me any allowance, and I needed to work,” adding that he worked at the lowest level position at a hotel in the engineering department and had to often deal with clogged toilets.

Decades later, he finds himself overseeing one of the largest hotel empires on the planet—and betting big on one of its most complicated and promising markets: India.

Nassetta is clear-eyed, even bullish, about what India represents for Hilton: the most transformative opportunity the company has seen since its push into China two decades ago.

“India is the biggest opportunity in the world at the moment — and for the next 10 to 30 years,” he says in his interview with CNBC-TV18.
