See how Carnival Cruise Line’s Fantasy Class “Fun Ships” changed the game of cruising and peoples’ love for cruising FOR-EVER! The Fantasy Class line of ships are still known today to be the longest running line of cruise ships built at the same time. A total of EIGHT were built between 1988-1998. They were in fierce competition with Royal Caribbean, who were building their own line of groundbreaking and futuristic ships of their own (the Sovereign of the Seas, Monarch of the Seas, and Majesty of the Seas – two of them later sold to Royal Caribbean’s subsidiary cruise line, Pullmantur Cruceros based in Madrid, Spain).

Recently, these once competitive rivals have all gone to the same place, the scrap-torn beaches of Aliaga, Turkey for their first and last time. The first to go have been the Carnival Fantasy (1990), Carnival Imagination (1995), and Carnival Inspiration (1996). Carnival Fascination (1994) has been sold to a buyer in the Asia Pacific region and has plans to be given a similar treatment that Cunard Line’s R.M.S. Queen Mary (1936) has been given in Long Beach, California, and as the Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2 - 1971) has been given in Dubai, UAE. What is left is the Carnival Ecstasy (1991), Carnival Elation (1998), and Carnival Paradise (1998).
