Reverse Culture Shock Changed How I See the U.S.

Coming home after years abroad can be both comforting and disorienting. After living in five other countries, moving back to the U.S. was a mixed bag of emotions — full of familiar faces and small comforts, but also unexpected challenges.

In this video, I focus on the hurdles I faced upon re-entry rather than the perks (which I’ll save for another time). I share specific examples of how daily life abroad shaped my perspective, and how certain parts of American culture still feel foreign to me — even after being back for nearly a decade.

What I discovered through reverse culture shock is that the hardest part of coming home isn’t adapting to a new place. It’s realizing that you’ve changed. This video explores what happens when the country you return to no longer matches the person you’ve become and how that realization can spark deeper self-understanding and growth.

In another video, I talk about the conscious decision that led me to move back. It wasn't because I had to, but because I chose to. There is so much to love about this country, and I look forward to sharing those insights soon.
