Historically, the Connecticut river has been a significant artery in the development of commerce for the New England states. In many towns the Connecticut provided a source of power for the mills that were the industry and a mode of transportation for the goods that were created in those mills.
In the town of Turner's Falls, Massachusetts, the river is still harnessed to generate hydro-electric power and it is also re-routed through the old power canal that drove the mills. As a result, this location provides a rather unusual view of this mighty river.
