(11 Feb 2022) Young audiences at a Chinese ice theater shared their excitement on Friday after seeing a performance of top athletes at the Beijing Winter Olympics.
The play featured a group of about 40 young figure skaters, including Chinese figure skating duo Pang Qing and Tong Jian, who won silver medals at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Staged in Tianqiao Theater, the play "We Are One" tells the story of young skaters who are driven by a sense of persistence and teamwork, encouraged by Tong and Pang, who play the role of coaches.
Wang Siqi, 10, is learning to figure skate in a club run by Tong and Pang.
Speaking of her experience watching the ongoing Games, Wang said she was very excited but sometimes worried about the safety of the athletes.
"Whenever they jumped into the air, I would worry if they can land safely," Wang said, sitting next to her mother.
Nine-year-old Sun Ruihong came to cheer for his younger sister, who was in the show.
Sun said his family enjoyed watching the Olympics together.
Pei Changjia, a mother who came to watch the play with her 10-year-old son, said she hoped it would cultivate her son's interests in winter sports.
The play is scheduled to run until February 13.
