A quick tour of my belongings as I prepare to embark on some time in the backcountry of Yellowstone National Park and its surroundings.
This video documents some of the essential (and some not so essential) items a person might want or need on a trip into the backcountry. Of course, do not consider this as a one size fits all list -- I am sure there are items you will see that another person will have no need for. At the same time, there are a couple things I neglected to show that are important/should be included on any trip into the wilderness. One example is a map/tools for navigation -- I also bring a Garmin In-Reach device for satellite/SOS communication where there is no cell signal. Waterproof matches, blister treatment, ibuprofen, etc. are things that I keep in my "first aid" kit. Little things can be important, but they do not always get the glory of the video screen.
As always, use caution in listening to what I say and doing what I do -- find what works best for you.
An apology to the ladies. My backpacking companions have always been dudes and my experiences have me describing other people as "guys" in the video. I'd ask that you consider "guys" as a general term perhaps better described as "backpacking enthusiast," please forgive my ignorance. I know girls like to hike/camp too. 🙂
And of course, as stated in the beginning of the video, I receive no compensation/kickback/promotional advantage by mentioning any of the items or brands of my equipment. What you see are simply my preferences after decades of spending time in the outdoors.
