So, here I have a vst plug in that emulates the legendary Yamaha CS-80....... no, not the Arturia plug in, that one sounds nothing like it
This is the Memorymoon ME-80 plugin; much cheaper and more realistic, because unlike Arturia, the guys who made this thing did there CS homework! This of course is not a real CS-80, but it's tantalizingly close to my ears, and I don't have 20,000 dollars for a real one.
I made this patch in typical CS-80 style where you've basically got two very different sounds layered on top of eachother. This is because the CS-80 functioned as two separate voices; both having the same set of controls, but able to be programmed different from each other or the same. This makes the CS-80 very versatile and able to produce a far wider array of sounds than most synths of the time. It is this versatility that allowed me to shoot this video in 1 take, with 1 audio track...... though it sounds like it was multitracked...
So, for "Line 1" I've dialed in a nice, warm PWM pad, filtered by both the HPF and LPF. I did this so that the sound's bottom end wouldn't add to the bottom end of the sound on Line 2.
For Line: 2 I programmed a nice New Orleans style solo Trumpet with some pitch bend on the initial level, controlled by velocity. I took a whole lot of low end off the trumpet with the HPF so as to be more realistic. This right here is where other synths fail! Sure, you may have a great sounding trumpet, but it's still too bassy.
Anyway, ENJOY!
