who made up the wii sports basket bike myth?

have you ever heard of the wii sports "basket bike" myth? IGN says that after gaining pro status in cycling, holding 1 while selecting your mii lets you use the NPC exclusive 'basket bike'. but this trick doesn't actually work.

what's weird is it /could/ be true, since most unlocks do work this way. however, there's much more to this story than first meets the eye. join me as I trek through cheat code sites and internet forums to discover the origin of the 'basket bike' myth.
