The first 20 miles of the Bedfordshire Greensand Ridge Walk unfold like a tapestry of woodland, village charm, and undulating countryside, beginning at Green Man Farm in Gamlingay.
The route eases through the grounds of Woodbury Hall before meandering into Everton, where quiet lanes and open fields lend a sense of tranquility. Sandy soon emerges with its historic market town vibrancy, leading into Beeston and Northill, where thatched cottages and pockets of ancient woodland enrich the journey.
The path then brushes past the hauntingly named Deadman’s Cross before weaving through Haynes and into Clophill, a village steeped in old-world character. As the miles fade, the walk culminates at St Mary the Virgin church in Maulden, standing resolute against the rolling Bedfordshire landscape, a fitting endpoint to a journey steeped in natural beauty and quiet history.
