Using the KA8301 motor drive IC used in the VCR mechanism, I created a device to adjust the speed and manually change the direction of rotation.
If you're new to electronics, I think making a simple circuit shown in the video on a breadboard will help you understand basic digital logic and H-bridge circuits.
