The transformation of a motel into permanent supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness is underway in Chula Vista.
Today, a ceremonial groundbreaking was held for Palomar Point at 1160 Walnut Ave, which is being transformed into 27 studio homes for people exiting homelessness, including 7 units for veterans, with on-site supportive services.
The rehabilitation and conversion is led by Wakeland Housing and is funded by the City of Chula Vista, the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s Homekey+ Program, and the County of San Diego. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2026, with residents moving in by January 2027.
About Homekey+ Program: Funded by Proposition 1 and HHAP, Homekey+ creates Permanent Supportive Housing for Californians with Behavioral Health Challenges.
