The Police RENEWED - Peanuts (FYYC's Extended Remix & Special Video)

It's all a game...!

The song was first written by Stewart Copeland and rehearsed and performed in early January 1978 as 'Rosy Lee'. But Sting wrote new lyrics and the song eventually became Peanuts. The lyrics were meant as an expression of disappointment on Sting's part towards his former idol Rod Stewart, of whom he said: "I used to be a great fan of his but something happened to him. I hope I don't end up like that." Having since experienced the celebrity lifestyle himself, he has said he no longer identifies with the song's lyrical content. As he recalled it later: "I was thinking about a former musical hero who had dwindled to a mere celebrity, and I was more than willing to pass judgment on his extracurricular activities in the tabloids, never thinking for a moment that I would suffer the same distorted perceptions at their hands a few years later." Never mind the lyrics, i especially like the energy of those early songs.

They started to record their first album on 1978-01-15 and finished mixing it on 1978-09-20. It would probably have sounded very different to the album we know if Miles Copeland hadn't made a deal with A&M Records; a few punk-like numbers were left off the album, but happily Peanuts wasn't one of them. But perhaps the song was still recorded a little too quickly, because they added nice little things in the (considerably faster) live performances afterwards. The video was composed from a few sources, I tried to make a tailor-made suit for the remix and reworked it a bit. As always, I'm curious to read what you think. So please let me know!

If our protagonist(s) ever listen to this: come on guys, especially Sting, the years are seriously starting to count, so surprise the world, break the myth of The Police as a closed legend, visit your old friends, conquer the demons of the past, and do what many people worldwide don't expect, but are really waiting for: rearrange a few of each other's solo songs, give each other some space and it's done: THAT DAMNED SIXTH POLICE ALBUM!
