The New Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge project reached another major milestone. The Arches turned pink to celebrate National Cherry Blossom Festival.
On March 21, 2022, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) the Executive of the Mayor (EOM) and the National Cherry Blossom Festival hosted a bridge lighting event at the Monique Johnson Anacostia River Center. DDOT Director Everett Lott, National Cherry Blossom Festival President Diana Mayhew, and Secretary of D.C. Kimberly A. Bassett offered remarks at a joint press conference and pressed the button to illuminate the bridge in pink lights.
Cherry blossoms are a part of Washington’s grandest springtime tradition.
The New Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge is more than a bridge but a representation of community, legacy, and progress.
