How I Knit the SSK (Slip, Slip, Knit) Stitch

I make a slight change when I do the ssk (slip, slip, knit) stitch. Curious about the way I do it? Check out my video!

Traditional ssk: slip a stitch as if to knit to right needle, slip a second stitch as if to knit to right needle, slip both stitches back to left needle and knit together through the back

My preferred ssk: slip a stitch as if to knit to right needle, slip a second stitch as if to PURL to right needle, slip both stitches back to left needle and knit together through the back loops

Want to knit my little swatch so you can compare decrease stitches? Here’s a pattern:

Cast on 17 sts.
RS: k4, ssk, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, k2tog, k4.
WS: k2, purl to the last 2 sts.

Work to desired length, first working a few of the RS rows with the traditional ssk stitch and then a few of the RS rows with the way I do my ssk stitch. Compare and decide which one you like best! There’s no right answer – whatever way you like better is the right way for you!
