One of Vivaldi’s most famous flute concertos, this work was composed in D major and is included as part of a set of six flute concertos, Op. 10, published in Amsterdam in the 1720s. The nickname Il Gardellino (“The Goldfinch”) refers to the birdlike nature of the piece, as the flute’s solo part often imitates the song of a bird with short motifs and ornaments.
