Lately, I’ve been really lucky when I go fabric shopping and have a look in the remnant box, because there is always something interesting. When I went to buy the fabrics for Halloween, I also got a piece of red velvet, and I thought it would be great for Christmas Eve.
I always had in mind a simple dress with a straight skirt and wrapped bodice with pleats on the shoulders but, because of the size of the remnant, the bodice turned out shorter than expected to be able to cut the three pieces needed.
The skirt was easy to make but when I sewed it to the bodice, the hip was placed almost on the waistline and I had to take it in a little bit.
Event thought I had a zip ready and I had left one side opened, I decided not to put it in because of the stretchiness of the material and I sewed everything together. And, another spontaneous decision was to open a slit on the side, just up to the knee, to be able to walk a bit more comfortably.
The result was completely different to what I had planned but I love the glamorous look!
