Verbs of the Senses - Learn English online free video lessons

This video is about verbs of the senses.

There are several concepts that are important to understand when speaking about verbs of the senses in English.

1. Action verbs vs. non-action verbs
2. Action verbs vs. linking verbs
3. General ability vs. focused ability

The first sense we talk about in this free video lesson is the visual sense or the sense of sight or the sense of vision.

to see - general ability, non-action verb
to look (at) - focused ability, action verb, focus on something static
to watch - focused ability, action verb, focus on something moving
to look - linking verb

Next is the auditory sense or the sense of sound or the sense of hearing.

to hear - general ability, non-action verb
to listen (to) - focused ability, action verb
to sound - linking verb

Next is the tactile sense or the sense of touch.

to touch - general ability, action verb
to feel - focused ability, action verb
to feel - linking verb

Next is the olfactory sense or the sense of smell.

to smell - general ability, non-action verb
to smell - focused ability, action verb
to smell - linking verb

And finally, the gustatory sense or the sense of taste.

to taste - general ability, non-action verb
to taste - focused ability, action verb
to taste - linking verb
