purple dances in blue

One of my favourite people to photograph is ‪@biancasunyoungkim2832‬ , not only because she is gorgeous, but more so because of how she moves in the water. She’s an opera singer and a yogi, so she is both musical and flexible, and she’s extremely graceful, which makes for a great model. And then there’s something else – I could never quite figure it out and asked her what she thought it was that made her move so well. She said something very interesting: “I think of the sea as my partner, and I’m dancing with my partner.”
At one party I saw Sun Young dancing on land; she was wearing a purple dress and I remember thinking that I’d love to photograph her dancing in that dress underwater. I asked her and she brought the dress to VB in 2017, so one day after the comp dives we did a few photos. Nothing deep as we were both kinda tired, just playing and Sun Young being Sun Young. Now purple is a tricky colour to edit underwater, and my poor Gopro couldn’t make much of it, but my good camera did alright and I took a couple of years to figure out how to get purple right underwater. It's often through play that I figure out how things work, and I’m very lucky to have amazing friends I get to play with.
