Most kids with developmental disabilities grow up isolated—often the only person they know like them. This is the story of what happens when they find their people.
Camp Via West is the only camp in Silicon Valley serving people with disabilities, ages 5 and up. This summer, over 500 campers experienced the breakthrough that Alyssa, now the camp director, experienced at 10: discovering they belong.
Helpers Community funded the infrastructure that makes inclusion possible—ADA-accessible bathrooms, sound panels, a safety pathway connecting campers using mobility devices to the sports field. “If Helpers wasn’t here, this community could not be created.”
