On September 14, 2023, a man entered the Youngstown Police Department lobby showing clear signs of emotional distress. What began as a routine interaction quickly escalated into a violent confrontation. According to police reports, the man — later identified as 27-year-old Keishaun Sims — became increasingly agitated as an officer attempted to speak with him inside the lobby.

Bodycam footage shows the moment the situation takes a dangerous turn. Sims suddenly attacks the officer, forcing a physical struggle inside the department’s auxiliary office. During the confrontation, Sims even attempted to grab the officer’s firearm, raising the stakes and putting everyone in the lobby at risk. Additional officers rushed to the scene and eventually managed to restrain and handcuff him.

Sims was later charged with:
• Aggravated Robbery (1st-degree felony)
• Assault on a Police Officer (two counts, 4th-degree felonies)
• Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor)
• Obstructing Official Business (misdemeanor)

He remains held on a $100,000 bond at the Mahoning County Jail. The officer involved was evaluated at a nearby hospital and has since returned to duty. The Youngstown Police Department stated they are reviewing the incident closely and considering additional training focused on de-escalation and lobby safety procedures.
