1997-98 Classic Trains of the Colorado Front Range, BN SD70MAC SD40-2 C30-7, ATSF FP45 SD75M, Amtrak!
Colorado Front Range railroad Burlington Northern Santa Fe was busy operating coal trains and mixed freights, on the mountainous Joint Line between Denver and Pueblo, over the Palmer Divide. For 1997 and 1998, classic locomotive types included former Burlington Northern SD70MAC diesels, BN SD40-2 and C30-7 units in helper service, a Santa Fe FP45, SD40-2, SD75M, and a BN SD40-2B cabless unit. Early BNSF motive power included orange C44-9W and cream colored SD70MAC diesels in action. Brand new Amtrak P42DC passenger diesels pulled the storied California Zephyr over the famous Moffat Tunnel Route of the one-time Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad.
