Mortal Kombat Deception - Max Difficulty Chess Kombat Playthrough - No Battles Lost - 2020

A max difficulty playthrough of Chess Kombat with no battles lost.

The only exception to the title is that I lost a character due to an enemy spell.

Introduction to Chess Kombat:

Chess Kombat made its debut in Mortal Kombat Deception and thus far in the franchise, it is technically the only game in which it appears.
I said technically as this largely depends on whether you consider Mortal Kombat Unchained to be a separate game or an updated port of Deception.
Initially, in screenshots for the game, the characters used their models from Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, these, of course, were eventually changed since this was early in the development of the game.

Immediately when starting Chess Kombat you will be asked to create a team.
You will notice that there are five slots that can be filled with whatever character you choose.

These five slots are the following:
Leader,Champion,Sorcerer,Shifter,Grunt.

The leader is more or less the equivalent to the king in actual chess.
You must protect him and if you lose him then the game ends.
On the board, the leader can move one square in any direction just like the king in chess.
In kombat, the leader has about 70% health and possesses three combo breakers.
On higher difficulties the AI will go nuts in its pursuit to kill your leader, trying all sorts of hare-brained strategies some of which may or may not work.

The champion is pretty much the equivalent to the queen in chess, the only difference is that you have two of them.
On the board, the champion can move any distance in both a straight line and diagonally so long as no other piece is blocking it.
In kombat, the champion has 100% health and possesses two combo breakers.

The sorcerer has no equivalent in chess.
You have two sorcerers and each can cast a given set of spells.
The actual spells and their effects are something that I would like to go over in another video.
On the board, the sorcerer can move two squares in a straight line both horizontally and vertically but cannot move diagonally.
In a way, the sorcerer's movement is similar to the rook as it too can move only in a straight line albeit with no restriction.
In kombat, the sorcerer has about 20% to 25% health and has one combo breaker.
I would not recommend using your sorcerer in direct kombat unless you are extremely good with that specific character.

The shifter also has no equivalent in chess.
You have three shifters and each moves exactly like the champion.
In kombat the shifter has 50% health and two combo breakers.
However, what makes the shifter an interesting piece is the fact that upon initiating combat the shifter will transform into the opposing character.
The shifter will have the same amount of health as the enemy but will keep the number of combo breakers it had before the fight.
The only exception to the above is when you fight another shifter.
In this case, the shifter will keep the health it had previously and also not transform into the opposing character.

The grunt is the equivalent to the pawn in chess.
On the board, the pawn can move two squares in a straight line, horizontally and vertically and one square diagonally. You also have eight of them.
In kombat, the grunt has around 35% health and has one combo breaker.
The grunt will possibly be the class you use most and one of the main objectives that you should have for your grunts is to have two of them occupy the power cells on the board.
Each power cell gives a bonus of 25% health in kombat.
Initiating kombat also gives you a 10% health boost (Attacker Bonus) for a total of 60% from the power cells and the aforementioned attacker bonus.

The board is 10x10 in size and you will notice this clearly once you proceed to the next stage.
You will now be asked to place a trap on your side of the board.
Your opponent will also do the same.
Landing on a trap is lethal both for you and the opponent.
The character will be thrust into the air due to an explosion and then during the next turn will fall down, having its head completely obliterated.
The trap is permanent and will continue its effects so long as you place a character on it.

If you move on a square occupied by an enemy piece then you will engage in a fight with it.
The winner remains on the square while the loser is killed.

So once you start the game, you should get place your grunts on power cells and then target
the enemy's sorcerers to deprive them of spells.
Expect the enemy to try to do the same if given an opportunity.

Of course, you can also try to destroy all the enemy pieces or simply go directly for the leader.
The choice is up to you.
