Tonight's Māori language
class was all about "Te Pātaka Reo"
the storehouse of language in the kitchen and around the home! 🏠
We explored everyday conversations, like offering someone tea: "He kapu tī māu?" (Would you like a cup of tea?). But language is tricky!
I once asked an elder, "He kapu tī koe?" (Are you a cup of tea?), causing much amusement.
He kindly corrected me, & the ladies behind him chuckled, explaining the difference.
It's amazing how a few words can change the meaning completely!
This reminds us that learning a language is a journey full of fun and those unexpected moments.
