What was the final straw?
“Everyone has that moment in their life when they're like, I'm too fat, and it happened to me last August. I went to my sister's house, and everyone was sitting down in the backyard in Muskoka chairs. I sat down in one, and I'm like, I can't fit in this. What was your surgical experience like?
“For what the surgery was. It was so easy. I was in, sedated, under the knife, up, walking around, and back in the car within 9 hours. For what was done, it was really easy. I had my gallbladder out two years before, and that was a tougher recovery than this. Going into a private clinic versus a big, institutionalized hospital, I felt like a Kardashian for a day. “

How has your life changed since having a gastric sleeve?
“Everything has changed. I wake up with a smile. I have more of a routine now. I start my day with a protein smoothie. I went from coming into The Sleeve Clinic office on the day of the surgery feeling like I was 85 to now feeling like I'm about 30. My mental health has done such an incredible turnaround. I used to have up and down days. Now I have more days where I'm up. I feel like I've been transported back to my younger self, but with all the knowledge of an adult. I'm living that fun, water baby, water ski kind of summer dream. I look amazing. Even if it stopped right now, I'd be happy because it's like hitting restart on your life.”

What does it feel like to have a gastric sleeve?
“It's a barometer. You don't feel any different. My stomach doesn't feel any different than it did before the surgery. Before the sleeve, you just keep shovelling in food. With the sleeve, you've got this nice little reminder to stop eating.”

Was it worth the cost?
“It was worth every single penny. Anyone who's debating it, do it. It's worth every single penny, I promise you. I was strong going in. I'm stronger now, and absolutely zero regrets. Zero. I wouldn't have gone with The Sleeve Clinic if you did not offer the aftercare program because, yes, it's me who's made the change. But this is a group project. This is a big investment.
