I Ate Korea’s Most Extreme Raw Foods!

From soy-marinated blue crab (ganjang gejang) and raw shrimp, to live octopus (sannakji) still wiggling on the plate, and raw beef tartare (yukhoe)—this episode is packed with unforgettable flavors and textures you have to see to believe.

📍 Stop 1: Myeongdong – Soy-Marinated Raw Crab & Shrimp
At the first restaurant in Myeongdong, I tried the legendary ganjang gejang, made with freshly frozen blue crabs from Korea’s West Coast, marinated in soy sauce and gochujang. The crab was silky, sweet, and packed with umami—like the “butter of the sea.” We also had soy-marinated raw shrimp, tender and slightly sweet. Watch as I show how to properly eat the crab by mixing the meat with rice straight from the shell. Pro tip: it’s absolutely delicious!

📍 Stop 2: Gwangjang Market – Raw Beef with Live Octopus
Next, I went to the famous Gwangjang Market for yukhoe (raw beef) and added a challenge: live octopus (sannakji). Yes, it was still moving! This dish is served with a raw egg yolk, shredded radish, seaweed wraps, and sesame oil. The beef was smooth, buttery, and flavorful. The octopus? Let’s just say it wasn’t easy to chew, and you’ll want a drink ready to wash it down!
