L Subramaniam plays the popular composition of the poet-saint Tallapakkam Annamacharya (in the raga Bauli set to Adi tala). The lyrics are in praise of Lord Venkateshwara of Tirupati.
Dr. Subramaniam is accompanied by Anindo Chatterjee on tabla and D S R Murthy on mridangam.
About the Raga:
A popular morning raga of Carnatic music, Bauli has an audava-shadava structure with five notes in the ascending and six notes in the descending. It is raga that predominantly evokes the karuna rasa or the aesthetic experience of pathos. The notes in the ascending and descending are:
ārohaṇa: S R₁ G₃ P D₁ Ṡ
avarohaṇa: Ṡ N₃ D₁ P G₃ R₁ S
