Zrmanja river - Outdoors Croatia

Peaceful paddling through the magnificent canyon. Zrmanja along with its tributary river Krupa features one of Croatia’s most beautiful landscapes – a freshwater oasis in the middle of the krast wasteland.

Zrmanja and Krupa are full of rapids and waterfalls formed upon sedra deposits. Those fragile barriers are the reason why paddling on Krupa is prohibited, while on the upper flow of Zrmanja only inflatable kayaks are allowed. Below Obrovac Zrmanja is navigable so it is advisable to take a sea kayak and start early in the morning or off the summer season in order to avoid speedboats along the way.

More than a hundred-meter high canyon will lead you ten kilometres along the way to the Novigrad sea. Besides a few goat tracks, the canyon has no real terrain approach.

For this trip chose a day with no wind. Northern winds are here to be avoided, especially bura that can be very strong and gusty and block your return. Follow this link to the parking lot in Obrovac where you can easily enter the river. Take some extra food, water and warm clothing.

Izlet bi bio jednako lijep i da smo išli samo do pola tog puta. Odaberite dan bez vjetra koji u kanjonu zna biti vrlo jak, pogotovo bura. Ponesite viška hrane, vode i tople odjeće. Za sve savjete oko odabira kayaka, opreme i samog izleta stojim na raspolaganju.
