The 2024 PNG National Population Census is underway. Despite issues of funding and other setbacks officers are collecting data. The country is supposed to have a census after every decade; the last reliable population headcount was in 2000. The 2011 census is seen as unreliable and in 2024 after years of delay PNG, is now looking to update its population statistics.
