A Perfect Breakthrough of "Qinshan No. 1" TBM

On December 6th, as the cutter head of the "Qinshan No. 1" TBM, a full-face hard rock tunnel boring machine, broke through the rock, it signified the successful completion
of the shield section in the Qinshan Nuclear Power Auxiliary Steam Networking Project.

This tunnel section, spanning approximately 1001.5 meters, traverses primarily tuff formations composed mainly of grade III, IV, and V surrounding rocks. To tackle the complexities of the geological conditions, the Tangxing Technology R&D team made precise decisions on various technical challenges, such as rail transportation in small cross-sections with significant slopes and rapid excavation over long distances with small cross-sections. Innovative improvements were made to systems like cutter heads, shields, and propulsion supports. The development and delivery of the "Qinshan No. 1" TBM were accomplished in just 3 months. With an excavation diameter of 4 meters, a total weight of 220 tons, and a length of 72 meters, the TBM features a heavy-duty cutter head, multi-section shield, a three-dimensional mucking system, and a variable support system specifically tailored to efficiently excavate long distances in hard rock with attributes such as good safety, flexibility, and excellent rock-breaking performance.

Throughout the project's construction, Tangxing Technology maximized its technical advantages, providing comprehensive products and full life cycle services to aid in overcoming construction challenges related to small diameters and hard rock. Ultimately, the tunnel's entire line was successfully connected in a span of 105 days. Compared to the drill and blast method, TBM construction boasts advantages such as rapid speed, high quality, elevated safety standards, and commendable economic outcomes.

This project serves as a critical livelihood security initiative. Upon completion, it will interconnect the auxiliary steam systems of Qin No. 2 Plant and Fangjiashan, while also providing external auxiliary steam to Qin No. 1 Plant, ultimately contributing to the long-term comprehensive utilization of nuclear energy.
