This was my first solo trip back to one of my favorite creeks, deep in the Mark Twain National Forest! The Little Piney Creek was where I did a great deal of fishing throughout high school and college. Normally I fish this body of water in the spring/summer and avoid it like the plague during the colder months. Low and clear water makes for some weary Missouri wild trout. Despite these undesirable conditions, I had an overcast day to help conceal my cast. Overall I could not be happier with the day! I caught a bunch of the wild rainbow trout that swim in these Ozark Mountains! On top of that I got to see a bunch of other stream side residents enjoying the unseasonably warm winter we have been having.
BE WARNED: Winter conditions on the Little Piney are tough for beginner anglers. If you do decide to tackle this creek when its low and clear, use a natural approach! Natural colors will win the day every time.
