Should You Buy DBrand Skins? Are They Worth It?

Skins, you have one, your car seats have them, your sofa sort of has them, and well your bed has them, if you count bed sheets. What about your electronic devices. All these things have skins to protect something underneath. For people, its their depression or ugly insides. For your tech devices like your phone or laptop? It’s to save it from looking nasty in a few years or to preserve its resale value. But how is using a skin in the first place? Is it worth it, specifically Dbrand? Today I’ll be looking at D-Brand skins from the viewpoint of a complete novice. Let’s get started.

First, I want to say, all my opinions are based off of my D-brand skin purchase. This is not sponsored, I know they do sponsor people but not me. So, Yo D-Brand. C’mon. Okay, I’m a beginner at skins and applying them however, in dbrand’s case they have an entire youtube channel dedicated to helping you put on your skin and they can be sorta funny at times too. They have a nice customization tool on their website that allows you to pick your skin and wear it on their render of your device. Pretty neat. As you can see, I got the nice marble one on the back of my iPhone XS Max and I think it looks great. Don’t copy me. Thanks.

When you purchase a skin for a smartphone it actually comes in two types, one that just covers the back, and one that covers the sides as well, that looks 10x more difficult to apply. The camera module skin also comes with two if you decide to purchase that. The application process is pretty easy, just watch their videos and follow it but be sure the surface is completely clean first, you don’t want bubbles or dirt. Or dirt bubbles. Also, you need a hair dryer. Steal that from your sister, or brother, I don’t judge. It’s also easy to mess up a little so you gotta be a little careful so that the skin isn’t crooked. Mine ended up pretty nice but it is skewed a bit to one side. You probably can’t see it on screen. That’s good.

So, what are the benefits of having a skin on your phone? Well, it looks nice, and adds a bit of personality. It allows you to change the appearance of your device without permanently altering it. I don’t think many people would like a spray-painted neon green iPhone. It also adds a layer of protection to phones with glass backs. Let’s face it, glass backs look good but if it’s cracked it’s expensive to repair and if you aren’t willing to shell out cash to repair it, the back will just sit there looking ugly, and possibly cut you. It’s dangerous. I don’t think skins are amazing protection, but they do provide an extra layer for scuffs and drops. Skins are pretty cheap too, I think I got mine for around $12 dollars for both the phone skin and camera skin.

There is a negative to skins though, while a lot of phones these days come with water resistance or water-proof-ness, skins don’t. They’re basically fancy oversized stickers for your phone that doesn’t ruin them. But if you place your phone in water, your skin will probably act funny and look a bit strange afterwards, like a prune.

So overall, what do I think after my first DBrand skin purchase? I think it’s worth taking a look into. If it prevents your phone from getting damaged then that 12 dollars could net you more resale value on your device, and in the process personalize your phone to make it more unique and more appealing to you. I think skins are a nice personal touch and people should consider them. DBrand themselves have been pretty quick to respond to me when I accidently messed up my order. So yeah, I’d say the purchase is worth it, and I’d definitely get different ones for my other devices as well.
