Here’s a cool little minor blues trick you can drop straight into your playing 🎸
When you’re in a 12-bar minor blues, try this: as you approach the move from the I chord to the V chord, switch things up in the second half of bar 4. Instead of staying on the minor chord, flip it to a dominant 7. In the example of this video switch from an Am7 to a A7 just before going to the iv chord (Dm7).
That subtle change adds tension, signals the turnaround early, and makes the transition to the V chord feel way more intentional and bluesy. Simple move = big payoff.
