This video shows a single-tumbler Norton-style quick change gearbox in use, and discusses the advantages of such a gearbox. A major advantage over the twin-tumbler design: the ability to change power traverse feed rates during cutting operations without stopping the spindle or any other part of the gear train. This advantage applies to power cross feed as well as carriage traverse.
