This set of drums was hand-carved from one ayan tree in Ogun State, Nigeria in 2004 to specific dimensions chosen to be in between the Cuban Bata and Nigerian Bata dimensions. I brought them back to the states and it took me 15 years to find the right man for the job to finish them. That man was Gilset Mora - Cuban master craftsman and Orisha Dancer. Also grateful to Maestro Carlos Gomez for giving me the idea of creating a set of drums to represent the linkage between two drum systems and cultures.
