Veterinary external skeletal fixation is used to treat a variety of fractures in pets. This type of system consists of inserting two or more pins in the distal and proximal bone fracture segments. The pins are connected to an external connecting bar by clamps. External skeletal fixation is very helpful for delayed healing, infected fractures, and other unusual bone injuries. This is Cornel, he had a mid-shaft fracture in his tibia and we put this external fixator on here. You can see this goes through his bone and it stabilizes and supports his bone, and every week, what you have to do for maintenance is we tighten up these screws, and we just make sure that none of the bones were infected, he doesn’t have any problem. And actually, Cornel is about three weeks out, he is doing quite well with this treatment.

So, the biggest thing about it is you have to come back to the veterinarian to get these things tightened up, and we just have to check them once a week, until we take them out at four weeks. He is doing quite well, perfect.
