In May 1998, the legendary Centennial Classic TT at Assen celebrated its 100th anniversary with a historic showcase of classic Grand Prix machinery, headlined by iconic names such as John Surtees aboard his MV Agusta and appearances by Phil Read, Giacomo Agostini, Jim Redman, Barry Sheene, Tony Godfrey, Colin Seeley, Randy Mamola, Benedicto “Chiche” Caldarella, Willie Hartog, Henk Persoon, Luigi Taveri, Carlo Ubiali, Takazumi Katayama, Walter Villa, Kenny Roberts Sr., Tommy Molloy and Gianfranco Bonera. Held from May 8–10 on the famed permanent TT Circuit Assen, the event evoked the golden era of 1950s–’60s racing, featuring vintage 350cc and 500cc four-cylinder machines. This commemorative celebration honored both motorsport heritage and modern competition, as fans gathered once again at the “Cathedral of Speed” to witness legendary riders re-live their classic GP glories
