Athens takes great pride in our homes even though were only 122 square miles, we have 16 historic neighborhoods. You wanna make sure you follow the procedures of the historic preservation commission in Athens. #2-There are 2 main hospitals in Athens-St. Mary's and Piedmont. No matter where you live, you aren't going to be too far away!. #3 Be aware of the cost of living. Even though Athens is a smaller mid-size city, our cost of living is reflective of a larger mid-size city. The higher housing costs are due to the strong economy we enjoy because of the economic impact of the University of Georgia.
