Above the Clouds | Amayangri | DAY 2 | Ride & Roam

We arrived at Amayangri Base Camp the previous evening at around 7:00 p.m. The temperature dropped significantly at night, and as only tents are available for accommodation, wearing warm clothes even while sleeping is essential. It is also highly recommended to book your tent in advance. One of the highlights of the night was the sky. With minimal light pollution, the stars were exceptionally clear, and the Milky Way was visible—a truly unforgettable experience.

Our trek to Amayangri Peak began at 3:30 a.m., so carrying a torch or headlamp is a must. The climb from the base camp to the summit took approximately 2.5 hours. Despite the early start, there were plenty of fellow trekkers on the trail, which made the journey feel safer and more motivating. However, caution is necessary, as the path includes steep, rocky sections. Every bit of effort was rewarded once we reached the top. The stunning panoramic views at sunrise made the challenging journey completely worthwhile. Since there are no water facilities along the trail, carrying enough water is essential. After enjoying the sunrise and breathtaking mountain scenery, we descended back to base camp, which took about 1 hour and 15 minutes. We then had breakfast before beginning our journey back to Kathmandu.

On the return, we took a different route from the base camp. Although it was easier compared to the route we took on Day 1, it was extremely slippery downhill. We departed around 11:00 a.m., and even though the road appears good in the video, the terrain was quite slippery in reality. One important tip for bikers is to slightly reduce tyre air pressure for better grip—something I unfortunately we didn’t do, which made the ride more challenging. This road is commonly used by four-wheel-drive vehicles traveling to the base camp and is generally a better option compared to the alternative route. After roughly two hours, we reached Tarke Gyang. From there, we continued through Helambu to Melamchi Bazaar. Finally, we returned to Kathmandu via Nagarkot, concluding an incredible journey.
