Otoyo Shrine (大豊神社) is definitely a hidden gem in Kyoto!
Otoyo Jinja is a unique shrine in Japan as it is guarded by two mice instead of the more common lion-dogs (Komainu).
For this reason, it is also called Nezumi (rat) Shrine.
It was established in 887 AD.
It is roughly located in the middle of the Philosopher's walk (哲学の道), and it is definitely worth a visit for its uniqueness and indeed, other peculiar guardians can be found like the snake, the monkey and the black kite.
