The Alta Via 1 is a backpacking route in the Dolomites, a mountain region in northeastern Italy. I decided to hike the 75 mile route over 8 days, staying in rifugios (or mountain huts) each night.
Tent camping is discouraged along the Alta Via 1. While I missed having my tent, it was nice to have a lighter pack, a good meal, and wonderful company throughout this hike!
