In this tutorial, I show you how to color clay for the Nerikomi technique using simple and beginner-friendly steps.
For the best results, always choose a clay body that absorbs color well.
The best option is white ceramic clay, because it has the highest color-intensity response.
You can add 10% to 25% ceramic stain based on the weight of your clay.
The more stain you add, the stronger and richer the color will be after firing.
Make sure you add only a very small amount of water to the stain before mixing it into the clay.
If you add too much water, the clay will become mushy and difficult to work with.
Another important tip:
Never add dry stain powder directly into the clay.
Mixing it with a little water first ensures the stain blends smoothly and colors the clay evenly.
