Walking the abandoned Cobram railway line to become a watermelon

Cobram railway station opened to passengers on the 1st of October 1888. The station and associated freight facilities quickly became a hub for commerce and travel for the town.
As road transport became more accessible rail passenger numbers dropped and The rail service was cut back to Numurkah in 1981. To much fanfare the train was restored in 1983 but it’s return was short lived with the last passenger train running on the 21st of August 1993.
A v line bus now services all the towns the train once stopped at.

Yarroweyah Railway Station history
Yarroweyah Railway Station was opened with the line in 1888 and immediately brought on a period of prosperity and accelerated economic growth to the town.
Historically it had been a man’s job but In 1910 it was decided that a station mistress was to be put in charge of the station. Some local residences partitioned against putting a female in charge of the station but the commissioner sided with the new female station mistress stating that “other stations on the same line which have more business than Yarroweyah are managed by women.”
As road transport rose to prominence Yarroweyah Railway Station became quieter and quieter.
In 1976 Yarroweyah station became a 'no-one-in-charge' station and was subsequently dismantled in 1979.
The original time battered station sign now hangs in the kitchen of the Yarroweyah memorial hall reminding local residents of there town's proud railway heritage.

Strathmerton Railway Station history.
After the wooden station building was sold off in 1986 a poopy little bus shelter was put in its place. Strathmerton station was now a shell of its former self with its once busy goods yards now also neglected and fallen into disrepair. Strathmerton station remained open and barely patronised for another 7 years until it closed forever in 1993.
