"Greater Works and Guaranteed Prayer" - John

John’s purpose in John 14:12-14 is to record Jesus’ teaching to His disciples that they would do greater works than He because He goes to the Father. We understand this guarantee as dependent on the giving of the Holy Spirit, who was sent from the Father when Christ ascended and was seated at His right hand. As another comforting guarantee, Jesus promised that when one prays in His name (according to His will), then such a prayer will be answered positively to the glory of God the Father.
